My Overall Rating
Ballshop Wooden Pet Ramp Review

Having a smaller breed of dog, I have often found that some of the bigger ramps are too cumbersome and bulky. So, when I found the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp, I was keen to give it a go with my Maltese, Lilly.

As you’ll see in my video, this is an incredibly sturdy dog ramp and what’s surprising is that you get the robust design for one of the lowest prices on the market. Being made from wood, I think that this is a great ramp if you want something aesthetically pleasing.

There were plenty of things that Lilly and I enjoyed about the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp. However, there are a couple of downsides such as the non-slip surface not being a non-slip as one might have hoped. I’ll uncover more in my BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp review so let’s not waste any time diving in.

  • Suitable for small to medium dogs
  • Great for older dogs or those with joint pain
  • Ideal for preventing arthritis and hip dysplasia in later life
  • Adjustable height
  • Can be used indoors and outdoors

The BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp is a wooden dog ramp with two adjustment settings so you can use the ramp for surfaces of varying heights. It’s incredibly good to look at so I think it works excellently as a ramp for the sofa as it isn’t going to interfere with your home’s decor. Some of the plastic ramps can look a bit garish.

The BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp has an adjustable height giving you the option to set it to 30 cm or 40 cm, according to your needs. I love this versatility as it meant that I could use the ramp to help my dog get in and out of the car as well as accessing surfaces inside the house.

The BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp is 70 cm in length. It’s not as long as some of the vehicle ramps I’ve tested but then it’s not designed to be used exclusively with the car. At 70 cm, it’s long enough for sofas, beds and other surfaces but probably wouldn’t be long enough to bridge the gap between the ground and the boot of an SUV.

Ballshop Wooden Pet Ramp Dimensions

One thing that I thought was something of a let down where the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp is concerned is the width. Most of the pet ramps I have reviewed have been at least 40 cm wide but this one is only 35 cm.

This surprises me since the weight capacity is so high and the manufacturer claims that this is suitable for small to medium dogs, including German Shepherds. However, a dog of that size is not going to have much room when using a 35 cm wide ramp. That said, for my small breed, it was just the right size.

Materials and Durability

The BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp is made from solid pine so it’s definitely one of the most sturdy dog ramps I’ve seen. Once it’s set up, it doesn’t move around or wobble which is ideal if your dog is a little nervous using the ramp for the first time.

There’s an anti-slip carpet that covers the ramp although the quality of this is lacking. I had read a lot of user reviews stating that their dogs found the carpet nowhere near grippy enough and I could easily see this when I tested the ramp myself.

However, since this is potentially one of the most affordable pet ramps on the market, it wouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience to purchase some anti-slip material and cover the surface yourself. You probably still wouldn’t spend as much as you would buying one of the more expensive ramps and you still get that all important stability.

Ballshop Wooden Pet Ramp Practicalities

I mentioned earlier that the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp has a very generous weight capacity. The manufacturer states that it has been tested with dogs up to 150 kg. Now that’s seriously high when you consider that other ramps usually hold only between 90 kg and 110 kg.

Part of the reason for this is that the ramp is made from wood which is a naturally stronger and more supportive material. However, I have seen some reviewers talking about the fact that the ramp becomes a lot more volatile when using it with larger dogs. Therefore, I’d err on the side of caution and perhaps only use this if you have a small to medium breed.

I love how portable the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp is. It folds completely flat when not in use. If you’re using this ramp for getting your pooch in and out of the car, this feature is great as it means the ramp won’t take up tons of space in the boot.

What’s more, there’s no assembly required. When you receive the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp, it’s already put together. The only thing you need to do is unfold it and set it to the required position which is incredibly simple.

Who Is This Ramp Suitable For?

The BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp is a good investment for owners of small to medium breeds. As I’ve already discussed, while the weight capacity is high at 150 kg, the ramp can get a little unstable when used with very heavy dogs.

I would recommend this ramp for anyone who needs a day to day pet ramp that isn’t going to get in the way. It’s lightweight, compact and looks the part so it’s perfect for use around the house.

Whether you have a young dog whose health you want to protect or an older dog who finds it difficult to get up and down, the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp is an excellent choice.

A Veterinary Perspective

Jason Haley 4th year Vet Student stated –

A Veterinary Perspective OF Pet Steps

“Pet steps are a great household addition for any potential pet owner looking to maximise the health and welfare of their animal.

I would highly recommend considering Pet Steps for older age / geriatric pets and those suffering from various joint conditions. Conditions such as OA (osteoarthritis), elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia are all too common in our older furry friends, especially in large / giant breed dogs.  The benefit of pet steps for these patients is that they reduce the strain and pressure placed upon joints from jumping up / down from sofas / beds etc. Pet steps (although not treating the condition) will not only assist in preventing further joint degeneration (from reduced jumping), but also help to keep your pet as comfortable as possible, providing pain free alternative to reach their favourite areas in the house.

Another recommendation for pet steps would be for smaller pets (toy breed dogs / cats etc). Having pet steps present will discourage your pet from jumping from high surfaces and potentially causing self trauma / limb fractures, something all too commonly seen in Veterinary Practice. In these cases pet steps can act as a preventative measure for injury, something which is always advocated over cure in Veterinary medicine. Pet steps will not only keep your pets safe, but also reduce the potentially high veterinary bills by preventing injury in the first instance.”

Final Thoughts

Ballshop Wooden Pet Ramp Conclusion

Final Thoughts
There are a couple of things that might initially have put me off the BALLSHOP wooden pet ramp such as the low quality anti-slip carpet. However, once I took a closer look at the product, I realised that these were minor issues that could be dealt with.

Overall, this is a really impressive little pet ramp and one that is super easy to use. The features are simple yet effective and I found this to be the perfect size and shape for my dog.
