The feeder comes in two versions with one connecting to WiFi for app control while the other is a little more primitive, simply featuring an on-board control panel. That said, despite the lack of technology, it still gives many of the other feeders out there a run for their money.
This feeder is designed to be used for two cats and comes with a splitter so you can install two bowls (which are included.) However, it’s also possible to use it for just one pet so it’s really diverse.

I have seen a lot of automatic cat feeders that I would not want in my home purely because of their ugly appearance. The great thing about the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder is that it’s a really nice looking piece of equipment and it comes in a choice of black or white so you can match it to your home decor.
Looks aside, the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder is also a very well made device featuring robust materials. The main structure is made from ABS plastic which is food safe, hygienic and strong. However, the two bowls that come with the unit are made from stainless steel so there’s no chance of them breaking. Plus, this material is one of the most hygienic for your pet to eat from.
Of course, the bowls and hopper are fully removable so everything is really easy to keep clean.

There are two versions of the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder; one that uses app control and one that doesn’t. If, like me, you like to be able to control things from the palm of your hand then the WiFi model will be right up your street.
The smartphone app allows you to program meal times and portions and also provides you with a feeding log to monitor your pet’s eating. What I really like about this app is that it can connect to the feeder via 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi so it’s a little more versatile than some feeders that only connect with 2.4GHz.

The Feeder
One of the first things I like to check out when reviewing an automatic cat feeder is how versatile it is in terms of meals. All cats are different; some may be on a diet, some smaller breeds might not need as much food and so on. Having the option to adjust meal sizes and times is essential.
With the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder, I noticed that there is a good amount of choice which allows you to program up to six meals each day. Each of these meals can contain between 1 and 24 portions with a portion being around 5 grams so it’s really easy to meet your pet’s unique needs.
What’s more, you have that large six litre tank that allows you to store much more food than some of the other cat feeders I have reviewed. This large size also makes it a viable option for small dog breeds.
If you’ve got a curious cat then having a pet feeder with a loose lid is a no-no! Fortunately, the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder comes with a locking lid so there’s no chance of your pet tampering with it and gaining access to six litres of food.
What’s more, there’s a small compartment on the inside of the lid where you can install the provided desiccant which will keep the food dry, crisp and fresh. If you’re going to be away for a few days or will fill the hopper to capacity then this gives you peace of mind that your puss will always have a tasty, fresh meal. What I also really liked was that, when the power switches to battery, the meal programs aren’t affected so everything just carries on as normal and you don’t need to worry.
The unit also comes with a built-in microphone (or you can use the app) which allows you to record a ten second voice clip to call your cat when it’s meal time. This plays automatically once everything is set up and is a nice way to give a personal touch to something that would otherwise be purely robotic.
If you’ve used automatic cat feeders in the past then you may have struggled with food getting stuck. But that isn’t an issue with the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder since it features an anti-jamming design and also boasts an infrared function to prevent food from overflowing. However, it is worth noting that the dry food should be between 5 mm and 12 mm in order for the anti-jam function to work properly.
However, while there are a lot of great points about the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder, I did notice that the machine can be a little noisy when the food is being dispensed. This may or may not be a problem depending on how confident your cat is. If you have a nervous or cautious kitty then this noise might be off-putting for them.

One of the things that a lot of people worry about when buying an automatic pet feeder is what happens in the event of a power cut? If you’re away from home and the power goes out, relying on mains electricity could see you kitty without a meal.
Nobody wants that but the good news is that the Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder not only comes with a mains power cable, it can also run on three D size batteries.
It’s possible to run the feeder on battery power alone but you have to factor in the ongoing cost of replacing the batteries. Therefore, I would recommend installing batteries but using mains power for the most part. You’ve then got a back up should the power fail.

It doesn’t come in too many pieces and you really only need to attach the splitter if you’re looking to feed two cats. If not, it can be used as a single feeder. Once you have loaded up the hopper with food, you can attach the lid and you’re almost good to go.
Once you have set up the physical unit, it’s time to install the app and start programming your Honey Guaridan 6L automatic cat feeder. One of the most obvious benefits of using this method is that it’s much less time consuming and a lot easier to understand than using the built in control panel on the device.
I was very impressed at how quickly I could add a feeder and set up meals. In fact, using the app, it took me no more than 30 seconds and the whole thing was very user friendly and self explanatory. Even if you’re new to this type of technology, you won’t have any issues working the app.
On the other hand, the control panel set up was a little more of a head scratcher. You need to use the hours and minutes setting buttons to adjust the time and the meal buttons to set a meal. While it’s not rocket science, I did find that the buttons could have been marked more clearly to avoid pressing random buttons and hoping for the best. That said, the LCD display is fully backlit so even in low light, you’ll have a clear view of the screen
